James Bond isn’t 007 without an Omega: 30 years of an iconic marriage

007: a code name that inspires fear for some, respect for others, and admiration for all.
Since 1962 and the franchise’s first movie, elegance and charisma, have had no other
function but to describe James Bond. Always impeccably mannered, impressively
competent, and admirably phlegmatic, the British agent appealed to every crowd and
became a symbol of refinement. One aspect of James Bond’s appearance has always
been meticulously put together: his watch. A statement of style in everyday life and an
iconic gadget in mission, James Bond’s watches are like a second skin and thus need to
be the reflection of his character. Thirty-three years after 007’s debut on the big screen,
Omega and the James Bond franchise engage in a partnership made in heaven.
Through its adventurous history and unparalleled craftsmanship, the Swiss brand
solidified itself as the ideal partner for 007.
The Pierce Brosnan Era:

GoldenEye (1995): Omega Seamaster Professional 300M Quartz
In Pierce Brosnan’s debut film as James Bond, GoldenEye, he wore the Omega
Seamaster Professional 300M Quartz, reference 2541.80.00. This watch is
characterized by a blue wave-patterned dial and a blue bezel, sporting that nautical
appeal required to play Xenia Onatopp in the Casino de Monte-Carlo. The quartz
movement offers precision, and the stainless steel case ensures durability. In addition to
its simple yet refined style, this watch also featured a laser cutter and a remote
detonator: an example of Omega’s mastery style and Q’s penchant for gadgets.
Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World Is Not Enough (1999), and Die Another
Day (2002): Omega Seamaster Professional 300M Chronometer
Brosnan continued to wear the Omega Seamaster Professional 300M in his subsequent
films, now with an automatic movement: reference 2531.80.00. Each film presented its
particular gadget: a detonator in Tomorrow Never Dies, a grappling hook in The World Is
Not Enough, and a laser and explosive charge in Die Another Day. These features
highlight Q’s commitment to innovation and showcase Bond’s reliance on his Omega
during crucial moments, especially in Pierce Brosnan’s era.
The Daniel Craig Era:

Casino Royale (2006): Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean and Seamaster
Professional 300M
Daniel Craig’s portrayal of a zealous Bond in Casino Royale introduced two Omega
models. Initially, he wore the Seamaster Planet Ocean, reference 2900.50.91, which
features a 45.5mm stainless steel case, black dial, and 600-meter water resistance:
three characteristics that a more rugged Bond seeks. Later, the Seamaster Professional
300M, reference 2220.80.00, made its appearance, featuring the classic blue dial and
bezel, symbolizing Bond’s perpetual elegance and Daniel Craig’s transition towards a
more elegant Bond. This change in watch marks the resemblance between 007 and his
timepiece as the blue steel look of the Seamaster matches Craig’s striking blue eyes.
Quantum of Solace (2008): Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean
In Quantum of Solace, Bond relied solely on the Seamaster Planet Ocean, reference
2201.50.00. This model features a slightly smaller 42mm case, black dial, and stainless
steel bracelet, balancing ruggedness with sophistication—imaging Bond’s persona. This
watch comes with the more rustic landscape of the Bolivian desert, putting reliability
over sheer style.
Skyfall (2012): Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean and Seamaster Aqua Terra
Skyfall showcased Bond’s dual personality on the job with two Omega timepieces. The
Seamaster Planet Ocean, reference 232.30.42.21.01.001, featuring a steel case and
black dial giving it a sporty look, accompanied him through intense action sequences,
as during the opening scene in which he chased a mercenary in the streets and on the
roofs of Istanbul. The Seamaster Aqua Terra, reference 231.10.39.21.03.001, with its
elegant design and blue dial, reflected Bond’s chic during more formal encounters, like
when meeting Séverine at a casino in Shanghai.
Spectre (2015): Omega Seamaster 300 “Spectre” Limited Edition and Seamaster
Aqua Terra
In Spectre, Bond sported the Seamaster 300 “Spectre” Limited Edition, reference
233.32.41.21.01.001. This watch features a black dial and bezel as well as a nato strap,
exuding a vintage military aesthetic and alluding to the past of James Bond at the
Britannia Royal Naval College. Additionally, the Seamaster Aqua Terra, reference
231.10.42.21.03.004, with its sleek design, deep blue dial, and flashy yellow seconds
hand, complemented Bond’s sophisticated demeanor and action-packed escapade in
Mexico City.

No Time to Die (2021): Omega Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition
For No Time to Die, Omega crafted the Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition, reference
210.90.42.20.01.001, in collaboration with Daniel Craig. This 42mm timepiece, made
from Grade 2 Titanium, features a brown tropical aluminum bezel ring and dial,
combining lightweight durability with vintage charm. Its mesh bracelet adds a touch of
nostalgia, making it a perfect fit for Daniel Craig’s final outing in the skin of 007.
Additionally, it emits an electromagnetic impulse that Bond used to kill a henchman with
a bionic eye, jokingly telling Q: “I just showed someone your watch. Really blew their
mind.”
Omega’s partnership with the James Bond franchise was bound to happen: both brands
are linked through adventure, elegance, and public admiration. MI6’s best agent is also
its classiest, and it would not have been possible without a Seamaster adorning his
wrist.
