Omega has surely made an impact with its watches over the last few years, covering multiple sector in the market and focusing not only on design, but also on the audience’s tastes and various partnerships with other brands and with the entertainment industry.
One of these very last partnerships involves the brand “Swatch”. One of the first things that comes to mind when looking at this type of collaboration is:” What will the price be? How will omega manage to meet the different and more affordable standards of a brand such as Swatch?”.
Well, the incredible price of these beautiful watches is 250 euro, and this surprising feature has led to the creation of massive queues on the 1st day of launch of the product, the 26th of march, around all shops in the world.
But let’s have a closer look at the collection: “Outer space inspires a new collection of eleven BIOCERAMIC watches named after planetary bodies that will have you reaching for the stars”. This is the introduction of the launch of the new products.
The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch is legendary and a must-have for collectors.
The features common to all watches entail a quartz movement with a Velcro strap and all hours, minutes, chronograph seconds hands and hour markers sport superluminova for a perfect glow in the dark.
Every battery cover on the back has an image of the planetary body that inspires the design.
The watch uses the materials of Swatch combined with the unique and memorable design of the iconic Omega Speedmaster. This initiative is certainly one to remember: Omega has always been an Elite product, that many people from all over the world could not afford.
Now, things have changed: BIOCERAMIC Moon-Swatch collection makes the iconic design accessible to fans everywhere.
Here is a short description of my personal favourite: Mission to Saturn.
“On this model, sandy, cool beige tones contrast nicely with a brown dial and VELCRO© strap. The chronograph seconds hand, subdial hands and tachymeter scale background are also in brown. The seconds subdial depicts Saturn’s rings. All dials carry the OMEGA X SWATCH branding, as well as the iconic Speedmaster logo and the new MoonSwatch logo.”
Now, I have a question for you: can we still say that these watches are a luxury product? Is this “recognition” based on the price, on the brand or on both? To what extent can the limits of luxury brands be drawn?
