LBSS Designers: Valentino Garavani

Throughout his career, Valentino Garavani emerged as a transformative force within the industry, etching his name among the most iconic figures in its storied history. Born in Voghera, Italy, Valentino developed an early affinity for fashion, surrounded by the rich cultural heritage of his homeland. Raised in a family that appreciated art and craftsmanship, he honed his creative instincts from a young age. His journey was inspired by his aunt, a local fashion designer, who kindled his love for couture and guided him to apprentice for both her and other esteemed designers. Valentino’s pursuit of fashion led him to Paris, the epicenter of haute couture, where he formally honed his skills at the École des Beaux-Arts and the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne.

At the age of 27, Valentino departed from Paris and returned to Italy to establish his own fashion house in Rome. While rooted in his native country, the essence of his atelier reflected the grandeur of the Parisian houses that had shaped his early career. The debut of Valentino’s first collection marked the genesis of an extraordinary career. His designs were characterized by opulent fabrics, impeccable tailoring, and a commitment to craftsmanship.
